International Women's Day Brew! with HER Studio London

The International Women’s Collaborative Brew Day project aims to promote and encourage more women in the brewing industry through collaboration and education. Our head brewer Jaega Wise has hosted IWCBD events at the Brewery over the past few years to celebrate: mass brew days, foraging and hop-tasting seminars.

While sadly we couldn’t do the same this year, we (Jaega, Sia and Ellie from the Wild Card team) enjoyed a more minimal Brew Day, and got brewing a creamy, super-hazy oat milk IPA. We put more oats in the mash than we’ve ever used before, which made for an interesting mash-in. We used our in-house yeast blend for fermentation, and dry hopped generously with Cryo-Idaho 7 and Mosaic.

For the IWD can design, we collaborated with the women at HER Studio London to make the design. HER Studio London is a female-led print design industry, promoting and empowering women in  all areas of life. Their mission is to create a platform for creative-minded, work-hard-to-play-hard, independent individuals.

‘For our collaboration with Wild Card for IWD, we chose to illustrate tropical inspired flora and fauna, using a vibrant colour palette.

Taking the artwork right back to basics, it was initially sketched out by hand. We then hand - painted swatches to look at colour combinations by eye before we scanned the artwork in, to work directly into each element using CAD.

Reminiscent of sunshine and opulence, tropical prints originated as a way to bathe people in positivity at a very challenging time in history.

At what we hope is the cusp of more positive times across the globe, we wanted to create a bold and powerful print to encapsulate some of this life and beauty.’

The final design!

To accompany this beer, we’ll be selling cork coasters covered with another bespoke HER London print. These will be £4 each, with £1 from each sale going to the charity Solace, who support women and children in London in building safe and strong lives.
