Beers Of The Urban Wild: Four New Releases

Over the past year, we have all quite probably explored more locally than we imagined we ever would have… Our latest releases give an illustrated glimpse into the urban wild on our very own doorstep, the Walthamstow Wetlands.

The Wild On Our Doorstep

The Wetlands sits amongst one of the most densely populated areas of the country, and the 211-hectare site is Europe’s largest wetlands. Here, in this urban wild, rare and interesting species are thriving. The area is home to London’s largest heron colony, while peregrine falcon colonies are known to hunt across the area.

With A Little Help From Conservation

The illustrations capture the mix of made-made and wild; you can spot the monuments of the Wetlands, relics of its industrial history. Deiniol explains,

I wanted to emphasise the relationship between nature and the urban environment. How, despite the fact that industry is rapidly taking over natural spaces, with a little help from conservation, nature and wildlife can thrive even in a large city like London.

Deiniol also explains how his designs wove in the traditional tarot card imagery, which features across our designs.

This sparked the idea to use the alchemy symbols for earth, water, fire and air which set the theme for each design and brought the cans together as one set showing how a multitude of species can inhabit a vast nature reserve like Walthamstow Wetlands.

PEREGRINE FALCON 4.6% New England Pale Ale brewed with a cool oat mash and a hot lager grist blended in. Fermented with our in-house hazy yeast blend and finished with a double dry hop of Azacca and Idaho 7.

GREY HERON 4.3% Thick, juicy pale ale made with a mix of pale malt, both flaked and malted oats and a generous amount of wheat. Brewed with a special yeast to finish on the sweeter side and finished with a double dry hop of fresh Mosaic and Cryro Cascade.

RING NECKED PARAKEET 5.3% A Belgian Pale Ale, brewed with pale and wheat malt, a small amount of Light Crystal and Cara Red. Hopped on the hot side with the classic noble hop Saaz and fermented with Belle Saison yeast. Singularly hopped to finish with Mosaic to accentuate the natural fruity notes from the yeast.

GREAT CRESTED GREBE 5.2% IPA made with a pale, oat and wheat malt base and fermented with an innovative yeast blend which gives a gentle, low intensity ferment. Finished with a double dry hop of the gorgeous Cashmere and the Australian favourite, Vic Secret.
